The book we're gifting to every child on our list this year!

Updated: May 16, 2020

I’m not sure our house can even handle another LEGO set, or Paw Patrol toy let alone another bead kit or Barbie. So, this year the gift I may be giving every kid on my list is the book

Finding Kindness by Deborah Underwood and illustrated by Irene Chan.

Finding Kindness is a very simple but adorable picture book which shows the reader about 25 different examples of ways to be kind to others. It’s simple, but so is being kind. And, I think sometimes we all forget (myself included) that being kind doesn’t take a grand gesture.

I recently read this book to my son's kindergarten class and I truly wasn't sure how it would be received with a larger group of children. I was in shock after I finished the book and almost every child was looking back at me with smiles on their faces. The feedback? They loved it!

Being kind can be sharing what you have, or simply asking someone how their day is REALLY going. This book is a wonderful reminder at anytime of year the importance of taking just a second out of your day to make a difference in another person’s life. The pictures are fun and engaging and can spark lots of conversations with children about different ways we can all chip in to make the world a better place.

Want to take this book beyond conversation with the children in your life? Ask them if they are up for a kindness challenge! Tell them to do one small act of kindness after reading this book and then ask them about it! You can create age appropriate activities such as draw me a picture, or write me a story.
